Oshi Castle in Saitama

Kawanoe Castle in Ehime
Kawanoe Castle stands on a beachfront and is believed to have been originally built in 1337. Shimabara Castle in Nagasaki
The five-tiered donjon soared above the grounds, with dimensions of 380 m east to west and 1,320 m north to south. Shigematsu Matsukura was known for harshly repressing the Christians within his territory. That repression lead to the biggest civil uprising by Christians which occurred between 1637 to 1638.

Ishite-ji Temple in Ehime
It is believed that Ishite-ji was first built in the year 728 by the family who ruled this region, at the request of the Emperor Shomu. The priest Kobo Daishi (Kukai), who studied Buddhism in China and worked to spread Buddhism in Japan, stayed here in 813, at which time he built a temple building.

Chikurin-ji Temple in Kochi

Tosa-jinja Shrine in Kochi
Tosa-jinja is sacred to Ajisuki-Takane-Hiko-no-Mikoto and Hitokoto-Nushi-no-Mikoto. The sanctuary has been designated an Important Cultural Property by the Japanese government.

Yutoku Inari-jinja Shrine in Saga
Yutoku Inari-jinja, located in the city of Kashima, Saga Prefecture, is one of the largest Inari-jinja (shrines sacred to the god of business prosperity), ranking alongside Fushimi Inari-jinja in Kyoto and Kasama Inari-jinja in Ibaraki. It was build in 1687 to enshrine a spirit from the Kyoto Palace.

Usa Shrine in Oita
There are many shrines in Japan which are named Hachiman-gu. The Emperor Ojin, who was deified as Hachiman-shin (the god of military power), is enshrined in these shrines. Usa-jingu was the first of these shrines. It is said that Hachiman-shin appeared at this place around the beginning of the 8th century.

Fuki-ji Temple in Oita
Fukiji Temple was built in the year 718. Its Amida-do is generally called Fuki-ji O-do. It is the oldest wooden structure in Kyushu. Inside the main hall are colorful pictures portraying various themes of the Buddha, indicating the fervent Buddhist worship among the believers at this temple.

Aso-jinja Shrine in Kumamoto
Aso-jinja is located in the center of the caldera of Aso-zan. The Aso-zan caldera is known as the largest in the world in which people are actually living. The sanctuary is located in Ge-gu (shrine at the lowest location), and Jo-gu (shrine at the highest or innermost location) in the crater of Aso-zan.

Miyazaki-jingu Shrine in Miyazaki
Miyazaki-jingu, located in the city of Miyazaki in Miyazaki Prefecture, is a shrine sacred to Japans first emperor, Jinmu. The present sanctuary was reconstructed here in 1907. The oshirafuji in the shrine grounds is believed to be 600 years old, and has been designated a Natural Monument by the Japanese government.

Kagoshima-jingu Shrine in Kagoshima
Kagoshima-jingu is in Hayato-cho, Kagoshima Prefecture. It is an old shrine said to have been built by the first emperor, Jinmu. The local place name Kagoshima is believed to have come from this shrine. The deity enshrined is Amatsu Hidakahiko Hohodemi no Mikoto and his consort, Tamayori-Hime.
